CLASS DESCRIPTIONS – DISCOVERERS (Entering Grades 1 - 3) Awesome Animals: Explore woods, field, pond and swamp for really awesome animals.Beach Combing: Look what the tide washed in. Search for the most unusual find. Create a scavenger trophy to take home. Day 1 at Town Neck Beach on beach side of the Boardwalk. Day 2 at beach by Hemispheres. Bug’s Life : Six legs and three body parts, wings or no wings, one pair of antennae, exoskeleton. These are what makes a bug a bug, but they are so much more.Cape Cod Safari: Visit three unique habitats in search of the strange and wonderful creatures that inhabit them. Day 1 at Talbot’s Point. Day 2 at beach by Hemispheres. Day 3 at Town Neck Beach on beach side of the Boardwalk.Creeks, Cracks & Crevices: Have some wet and wild fun exploring for critters hiding in creeks, cracks and crevices. Float along the Smiling Pool at Green Briar in the canoe-catamaran on 7/1. Other dates meet at the beach. Critter Creations: Work with paper, egg cartons, clay and more to design and create unique animals from your imagination.Dig It Archaeology: Be an archeologist as you excavate small "digs" looking for evidence of human activity. Work with your team to hunt for coins and bones and reconstruct materials back at the lab.Dinosaur Romp: Have some fossil fun and volcanic laughs learning about dinosaurs and their time.Discoverer’s Night Out: Explore the Smiling Pool by canoe-catamaran as the evening begins. Roast marshmallows over an open fire.Enchanted Gardens: Create lovely little fairy garden homes complete with live plants and moss in take-home planter containers. All plants and building materials are provided. Add $8 to class fee for materials.Fairy Houses: Use bits of bark, pretty shells, pine cones and leaves to create a special house fit for a tiny woodland fairy along Fairy Hill. Fetch: Explore science with Ruff Ruffman as you complete awesome experiments from the hit PBS television show.Flying High: Things with wings are what we’ll search for during this class. Make a kite and try to get it to soar to the tree tops.Herps Alive: Reptiles and amphibians are wonderfully unique. How many different Herps can you find along the trails and pond edge at the East Sandwich Game Farm?Hide and Seek: Work with topographical maps and compasses to explore off the path. Complete a special challenge on the last day to find a box of goodies.Mad Science: Create the weird and strange in our "laboratory." Some strange things can go home; others are too unstable to travel.Native Crafts and Games: Create musical instruments, work with beads and discover some cool games to play.Nature Journaling: Create a special notebook filled with stories, drawings and special keepsakes from nature. On 7/1 explore out on the Smiling Pool in a canoe- catamaran in search of inspiration.Nature’s Ninjas: Look for critters that are great at camouflage while they wait for their prey to come along.Pirate’s Life for Me: Ahoy ye land lubbers! Practice your "pirate skills" with maps and search for booty to divide up and keep. Set sail on the Smiling Pool on the Black Mussel (canoe-catamaran) with the Jolly Roger flapping in the breeze.Recycled Crafts: Design and craft some really cool and useful stuff from things we usually throw away.Reptile Safari: Meet Erica the African Fat Tailed Gecko and our resident turtles and snakes. Trek out on the Smiling Pool in the canoe-catamaran on 8/27.Seaside Safari: Look for magnetic grains in beach sand, rare rose quartz, laughing gulls, tiny oyster drill shells and fragile limpets. Day 1 at beach by Hemispheres. Day 2 at Town Neck Beach on beach side of the Boardwalk.Slippery Slimy Science: Slime, oobleck and exploding soda pop are just a few of the science wonders that await you in this class. Smiling Pool Safari: Look for Jerry Muskrat, Little Joe Otter, Grandfather Frog and Redwing the Blackbird. Go out on the canoe-catamaran on 7/30 in search of Mrs. Snapper and Painted Turtle.Snakes Alive: Meet Kaa and Albi, our resident snakes. Then hike out in search of their wild cousins. We have no poisonous snakes on Cape Cod.Soap Science: Have lots and lots of " bubblicious" fun making bubbles and even painting with bubbles. Turtle Hurdles: Meet the resident turtles in the Ed Center. Then explore the Smiling Pool in the canoe-catamaran looking for wild turtles to catch.Wet & Wild Safari: Nets up and ready to capture fish, crabs, sea slugs, lobsters and other critters that live in salty places. Day 1 at beach by Hemispheres. Day 2 at Town Neck Beach on beach side of the Boardwalk. Day 3 at the Game Farm.ZOOM-Build It: Work in teams to construct towers and bridges, unique kites and weird snacks. ZOOM-Move It: Work in teams to construct objects that can move. Wind powered cars and planes are just some of the objects to make.ZOOM-See It: Optical illusions, after images, color changes are just some of the science fun in this ZOOM class.
