DISCOVERERS (entering Grades 1 – 3)

Sibling Discount of 10% when registrations are made at the same time. Discount taken on an equal or lesser class fee.

All our lead naturalists are First Aid Certified. Staff to Child Ratio is 1:7

Can be different consecutive classes if within a weeks time period for discount.

Bring a hat and snack to all classes.
Cold water is provided.

June 28 Smiling Pool Fun Explore the Smiling Pool Pond from bank to bank in our canoe-catamaran. Explore the shore for Grandfather Frog and Jerry Muskrat. Green Briar
June 29 Imagine, Pretend, Explore Explore the world of witches, fairies and dragons. Explore science with totally awesome potions. Design and create magic wands, fairy houses, make and take home your own enchanted garden with real plants and imaginary creatures. Additional fee of $8.00 for materials. Green Briar
July 1 & 2 Clay Critters and Painting   Hands-on fun with clay sculpting, drawing and painting from nature. Green Briar
July 5 & 6 Fossil Fun  Explore some really cool fossils from ancient animals and plants. Discover how they were made. Create some imprint fossils to take home. Green Briar
July 7 Off The Trail with Map and Compass  Discover or fine tune your orienteering skills along the wild ways. Meets at the East Sandwich Game Farm. Game Farm
July 8 & 9 Fun and Games from Long Ago Create and play some awesome games from Native Americans and Pioneers. Toys include spinning tops, yoyos, stick and ring game, hoops. Green Briar
July 12 Damsels and Dragons  Oh Odonata! How do you tell a male dragonfly from a female? Discover the secret lives of dragonflies and damselflies. Green Briar
July 13 Endangered Species  Explore endangered animals through hands-on fun with artifacts. Learn how animals and plants are listed as species of special concern, threatened or endangered. Create a Shrinky Dinks endangered animal’s backpack tag to take home. Green Briar
July 14 & 15 Keeping a Nature Journal  Explore the marsh, woods and pond around the Game Farm for inspiration for your journal. Create a nature collage of inspiration.

July 15 Girls Night Out 6:00-9:00pm A “GIRLS ONLY” explore of pond edge and woods as the sun sets for bats and owls. Listen for the sounds of animals. End the class by the fire making yummy s’mores.  Green Briar

July 19 & 20 Science Discovery - Air and Flight Create air spinners, gliders, parachutes and balloon rockets. Explore bird’s feathers and wind and weather. Green Briar
July 21 & 22 Science Discovery - Magnets and Magnifiers Use magnets to construct an anti-gravity machine and a compass. Explore minute objects like seeds and sand. Check out microscopic life in soil and water. Make your own 3x monocular to take home. Green Briar
July 22 Boys Night Out 6:00-9:00pm  A “BOYS ONLY” explore of pond edge and woods as the sun sets for bats and owls. Listen for the sounds of animals. End the class by the fire making yummy s’mores. Green Briar
July 23 Buzz about Honey Bees  Here is a rare opportunity to meet Sandwich beekeepers Claire and Paul Desilets. They manage our hives at Green Briar and will introduce you to the buzz about bees. A honey of a snack will be provided. Green Briar
July 26 & 27 Amazing Archaeology Explore a “Dig” for clues to ancient peoples. Learn to decipher Egyptian hieroglyphics. Create a bookmark from real Egyptian papyrus to take home. Green Briar
July 28 – 30 Creature Feature Everyday we’ll explore a different animal group through stories, crafts and actual observations. For reptile day we will explore out on the Smiling Pool in the canoe-catamaran. Green Briar
August 2 & 3 Science Discovery - Shadow and Light  Explore light and shadows with sundials, pinhole cameras, symmetry of objects, bending light and mirrors. Create a kaleidoscope to take home.  Green Briar
August 4 & 5 Science Discovery - Water and Other Liquids  Great fun completing experiments with liquids. Investigate boat shapes, sinking and floating objects, surface tension, and liquids that float. Create works of art with marbling. Green Briar
August 6 Endangered Species  Explore endangered animals through hands-on fun with artifacts. Learn how animals and plants are listed as species of special concern, threatened or endangered. Create a Shrinky Dinks endangered animal’s backpack tag to take home. Green Briar
August 12 & 13 ROCK ON  Explore glow in the dark and color changing minerals, spectacular fossils and incredible geodes during your discovery of rocks and minerals. Green Briar
August 16 & 17 Creature Feature Everyday we’ll explore a different animal group through stories, crafts and actual observations. For reptile day we will explore out on the Smiling Pool in the canoe-catamaran. Green Briar

August 23 & 24 Exploring Entomology Do you know which insect smells with its feet? Which insect is the strongest or the fastest? If these questions are “bugging” you then this class is for you. Second day meets at the East Sandwich Game Farm. Green Briar and Game Farm

August 25 & 26 Science Discovery - Color and Sight How do we see color? Have fun with experiments on seeing color, creating colors, using colors for chemical changes and optical illusions. Create a rainbow scope to take home. Green Briar
August 27 Stinky, Stinky, Stinky Some smells attract, others repel. Polish up your sniffer for wild exploration in search of things that have a smell. Green Briar
August 30 Marsh Trekker Scope out Osprey on the nest. Look for illusive fiddler crabs in the creek banks. Use the giant seine net to capture incredible pipe fish and flounder, green crabs and shrimp. Meets at the East Sandwich Game Farm. Game Farm
August 31 Pond Trekker Look for animal tracks in the sandy bank of Hoxie Pond. Hunt for frogs and tadpoles in the shallow edges. Scoop for tiny creatures in the pond weed. Meets at the Game Farm. Game Farm
Sept. 1 Forest Trekker Explore the pine and oak groves for signs of squirrel, owl and salamander. Look for the trails of bark beetle and holes of woodpeckers. Meets at the East Sandwich Game Farm. Game Farm
