Rangers Summer Programs 2017
Classes meet 9am to noon unless otherwise noted.
Dress for outdoors and bring a snack. PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE NUT PRODUCTS IN ANY SNACKS.
CHILDREN’S SUMMER DAILY PROGRAMS
PROGRAM AND STAFF INFORMATION:
Our children’s programs are aligned for
E-STEM (Environment, Science, Technology, Engineering and Math).
Be sure to read the weekly course
Your child’s attendance for the full
week ensures all content is covered.

Locations vary week to week and even daily.
Each day’s class location is found
under the BOLD Class Title and to the right of the date.

While weekly sessions for the different age
groups may have the same title, every session is age/ability
There may be explorations out on the
water noted alongside the daily location. Discoverers
& Explorers explore the pond at Green Briar in our 14 foot canoe-catamaran powered
by staff and junior naturalist volunteers.
Rangers use single canoes and are
arranged according to experience/ability as noted by our staff.
Our staff provide necessary age/size
appropriate flotation vests.
You are welcome to bring your own
vests on those days.
Each Class is led by a Burgess Society
Teacher/Naturalist who is Pediatric First Aid Certified and CORI checked
with a Summer Naturalist Assistant.
Peter Rabbit’s Friends, Discoverers
are also assisted by a volunteer Junior Naturalist Aide.
Classes are limited up to 12 children
for Peter Rabbit’s Friends and up to 14 children for Discoverers and
Each child will need a hat, shoes that
suit the class (never send a child in flip flops) and a snack.
Water is provided.

KITCHEN SCIENTISTS Foam and Fizz:
experiment with common kitchen
products like vinegar, baking soda, corn starch and yeast to create
amazing foaming fountains and awesome "Elephant Toothpaste".
POND AND STREAM SAFARI CANOE EXPLORE:
meets at the Scorton Creek landing at the East Sandwich Game Farm.
Explore the amazing creatures found
along the banks of marsh creeks.
Scope out fiddler crabs, ribbed
mussels, a variety of minnows and even some larger fish as we travel up
Scorton Creek and over to Talbot's Point for a snack in the pine grove.
Prior paddling experience is helpful.
SMILING POOL PADDLE AND S'MORE ROAST meets at Green Briar for a late day paddle in search of otter, muskrat, black-crowned night heron and osprey. End the night fireside for a s'more-making session.
TIDAL POOLS AT NIGHT:
As the night descends amazing creatures move into the shallow pools to hunt and hide. We'll look for squid babies, moon snails, tidal pool sculpin fish and huge rock crabs. Bring a flashlight or head lamp. Wear a jacket or sweatshirt. We will end the night with a warming fire and marshmallow roast on the beach.
