Butterfly Walks in the Shirley G. Cross Wildflower Garden with Entomologist Blake Dinius

Find a new a way to exercise, relax, and reconnect with nature by joining our guided insect walk in the historic Shirley G. Cross Wildflower Garden. Our target species will be summer flying butterflies, including monarchs, fritillaries, and skippers. No experience necessary. This will be a casual, meandering walk with an emphasis on identification, observation, and appreciation.

Massachusetts is home to over 100 species of butterfly. With names like “satyr,” “monarch,” and “nymph” butterflies evoke fantastical imagery of small mythical creatures flitting about. They form an intimate connection to the plant-life in the area, as both primary consumers of leaves and pollinators.
