Dragonfly Walks in the Shirley G. Cross Wildflower Garden with Entomologist Blake Dinius
Find a new a way to exercise, relax, and reconnect with nature by joining our guided insect walk in the Shirley G. Cross Wildflower Garden. With an estimated 160 species of dragonfly (and damselfly) in Massachusetts, there is an incredible amount of diversity. Often referred to as “rainbows on the wing,” dragonflies and damselflies come in a variety of patterns, shapes, and colors. Dragonflies have been on our planet for an estimated 250 million years: ancient rulers of their tiny realms.
Our target species will be skimmers and damselflies, including meadowhawks, pondhawks, and forktails.
No experience necessary. This will be a casual, meandering walk with an emphasis on identification, observation, and appreciation.
